In fact, there are ways you can improve your digestion naturally with just four simple steps! Here they are:

Stay Hydrated

The most important thing you can do for your digestive health is to stay hydrated, according to Dr. Rachel Oliver. Water helps to keep everything moving through your body, and it keeps you from feeling bloated or constipated. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day (more if you’re exercising heavily). Some people find it helpful to keep a glass with them at all times so they remember how much they’ve drank throughout the day–otherwise there’s a chance they won’t drink enough!

Eat Fiber-Rich Foods

The second step to improving your digestion is to eat more fiber. Fiber helps food move through the digestive tract and prevents constipation, which can lead to bloating and gas. You can find fiber in fruits, vegetables, whole grains (like oats) and legumes like beans or lentils. The recommended daily fiber intake is 25-30 grams per day for adults (19 grams for kids).

Avoid Probiotics & Antacids

Probiotics can interfere with the body’s ability to digest food. Antacids are also a common cause of indigestion, bloating and gas. Avoiding probiotics and antacids can help improve your digestion.

Don’t Overdo It On Dairy Products

Dairy products can be a bit tricky for some people. Dr. Rachel Oliver If you’re sensitive to lactose or dairy, it’s best to avoid these foods altogether. If you aren’t sure whether or not dairy is good for your digestive system, try eliminating them from your diet for two weeks and see how things go. If there’s no improvement in symptoms after two weeks without them (or if there’s actually an increase in bloating), then it may be best to limit their intake even further.
